The provisional export figures for week 37 were announced last week. Compared to the past few weeks, the export is a lot less, but that doesn't have to be a problem.
That the export of onions in week 37 was less than in the 2 weeks before, was already expected. However, an export of more than 17.500 tons is still more than excellent in a season like this. With these new figures, the total export volume (up to and including week 37) amounts to 213.954 tons.
The total onion export is therefore ahead of the 2016/2017 season, in which almost 1 million tons of onions were exported at the end of the season. These volumes will not be anywhere near this year available are. In fact, if exports continue as strongly as in week 37, the onions will already be gone in March.
Who took the most?
The top 3 buyers of Dutch onions in week 37 consisted of well-known names. Great Britain takes part that week again most of the onions (1.723 tons), bringing the total purchase this season to 28.018 tons.
Senegal follows in second place (1.685 tons), meaning the country has so far purchased 28.183 tons of Dutch onions. Third place in week 37 goes to Ivory Coast (1.673 tons), bringing the total purchase this season to 36.515 tons.
Export is increasing again?
It is expected that onion exports in week 38 will be comparable to this week. However, on the other hand, exports are expected to exceed the 39 ton limit again in week 20.000.
