The demand for onions from Africa has already been present in recent weeks. How that question turned out remains to be seen clearly in the figures of the most recent export figures (those from week 38). In that week, at least 26.964 tons of onions were exported from the Netherlands, making this week the leading position of this season.

The biggest customers
The largest buyer in week 38 was Senegal, with a purchase of 9.156 tons of Dutch onions. The decrease from Senegal is in stark contrast to the figures from Indonesia (2.733 tons), Ivory Coast (1.843 tons) and Great Britain (1.6579 tons).

The postal information increases the export figure by 2.736 tons. The season total therefore rises to 243.655 tons, which means an average of 20.304 tons per week. In calendar year 2018, 722.871 tons were exported, compared to 709.637 tons in 2017. In 2015 and 2016, 678.639 tons and 678.416 tons were exported, respectively.
