The onion market is currently very hot

16 November 2018

The increased bale prices and strong exports ensure that the trade has confidence in the market. Since there is a big shortage of onions this year, they are trying with all their might to get their hands on onions. Onions are mainly bought in the long term. Most 'receipts' being written now are for January or February delivery. And for these parties, people are digging deeper and deeper into their pockets.

Farmer prices have not only made a step this week, but bale prices are also on the rise. €45 is paid in the bale for middle sorting and the 60 to 80 millimeters are now approaching €50. The triplets can bring down 1 batch considerably, for this size sorting is paid in the bale around the quarter.

25.000 tons per week
The export figure of week 43 again indicates an export week with figures above 25.000 tons. The 'usual' destinations from Africa, in particular, are fanatically buying Dutch onions. These destinations are also doing well on the market, so it is expected that an average export of 43 per week will also be maintained between week 47 and week 25.000.

Stock prices make giant strides
The 3 regional stock exchanges all recorded a significant increase compared to last week. Significant steps are being taken, especially in Middenmeer and Emmeloord. In Middenmeer, the 60% large onions increase by €5 and in Emmeloord the 30% to 60% large onions increase by no less than €6.

If we put the 3 exchanges next to each other, then €23 to €30 is paid for the finest sorting, €30 to €60 for the 25% to 37% and €60 to €34 upwards for the 40% to €XNUMX.

The regional stock markets are making significant strides.
