It is not only the African countries that are joining the top of the largest buyers of Dutch onions. People also appreciate the Dutch onion further away.
The latest insights into the export of Dutch onions are once again known (week 44). Based on the information currently available, the export figure in that week is 20.241 tons. In addition, there is again delayed information (week 40 to week 43). This concerns a volume of 1.816 tons.
The season total therefore rises to 389.854 tons of onions. The average weekly export then amounts to 21.658 tons. For calendar year 2018, the counter stands at 869.070 tons of Dutch onions, compared to 888.624 tons in 2017. In 2015 and 2016, the counter during this period was 830.153 tons and 850.570 tons respectively.
The biggest customers
The list of largest buyers is led by Ivory Coast, with a purchase of 4.001 tons. This means that the country is good for sales of 60.277 tons of onions this season. Great Britain is in second place, with a total of 2.252 tonnes. The country now produces 41.240 tons of Dutch onions.
Senegal follows in 3rd place, with 1.973 tons. The country leads the list of largest buyers this season (64.074 tons). The Dominican Republic accounted for 1.348 tons and Indonesia purchased 1.330 tons of onions. In total, Indonesia purchased 17.545 tons this year.
