Listing Baalprijs Onions gets a new set-up

DCA-Markets will give the listing 'Baalprijs Onions' a new look as of 1 February. It thus complies with European rules in the field of quotations (benchmarks). The quotation will be published weekly on Friday.

DCA-Markets currently manages and prepares a number of agricultural quotations. These include the DCA Beursprijs 2.0, DCA BestPigletPrice, DCA spot milk quotation, DCA fertilizer collection contributions and DCA phosphate rights quotation. European rules also apply to this.

Clarity
The 'Baalprijs Onions' is published weekly on Fridays and on 1 February this will be the first time in the new style. The quotation is for yellow onions, class 2, and various sizes are described: 35 to 50 millimeters, 45 to 65 millimeters and 50 to 70 millimeters, 60 to 80 millimeters and 80 millimeters upwards. Specifications and conditions are exactly described. This should provide the market with more clarity.

The bale prices are for onions that are collected from Dutch sorters and packers. DCA-Markets receives the prices from these parties. This concerns the trade that took place in the previous 7 days. The minimum and maximum prices ultimately form an average (benchmark).

Then the bale price is Friday at 14:30 PM published on Boerenbusiness.NL. In addition, text and explanation is given about the establishment of the listing and the input that has been provided.

Importance is increasing
René van 't Riet of DCA-Markets reports that the importance of the quotations for the sector is growing: "They provide information about past business, but are also a yardstick for concluding and settling contracts. The interests are large, so we decided have to apply a number of important principles from European regulation, which also apply to the setting of the EURIBOR rates."

According to the authors of the listing, a clear procedure and description of the guidelines increases reliability and verifiability. Hopefully this will also increase the importance of the listing.
