The Netherlands uses 25 percent of its sorting capacity

Dutch onion exports are very difficult at the beginning of 2019. In week 7, only 25% of the Dutch sorting capacity is used.

The provisional export figure for week 7 this amounts to 10.335 tons of onions. The record amount exported in 1 week is 38.880 tons (week 46 of 2016). Add to this some additional sorting capacity created (due to new sorting lines) and then only approximately 25% of the Dutch sorting capacity is currently being used.

The export figures for week 6 were quite disappointing to everyone in the onion sector. Subsequent information ensures that the export figure of week 6 is supplemented by 1.954 tons of onions, bringing the total to 9.126 tons. The total of completed items, which is 3.927 tons of onions, puts the season's total at 648.962 tons. The average weekly export amounts to 19.665 tons.

Top 3 buyers
In week 7 there are 3 countries that have purchased more than 1.000 tons. Germany is in third place this week, with a purchase of 1.156 tons of onions from the Netherlands. Germany purchased a total of 19.505 tons of onions from the Netherlands this season. This is 75% more than Germany imported over the same period last season.

Great Britain is in second place, with a total of 1.384 tons of onions. The largest buyer of Dutch onions in week 7 is Israel. The country imported 1.400 tons of onions.
