It is usually quiet on the Dutch onion market in the months of February and March, because during this period exporters switch from African destinations to European destinations. However, given that many destinations in Africa switched to alternative suppliers much earlier this season, this quiet period only seems to last longer. This also increases the grumpiness among onion growers.

Exporters are therefore turning their attention to European destinations. But, so far, these destinations have not wanted to continue, mainly because they have cheaper alternatives. On average, approximately 2019 tons of onions are produced per week in 11.407 exported.
