Demand for Dutch onions is increasing

After the buying round at the end of November, it became (very) quiet on the onion market. This week, however, processors and traders are moving a lot more emphatically on the onion market. What does that result in?

While last week there was still talk about it grumpy Among growers, the mood is a lot more positive this week. Exports in Europe are improving, which is why traders and processors are entering the onion market more intensively.

Getting your hands on onions
The increasing demand for Dutch onions comes from an expected angle, because Germany and Eastern European destinations in particular have a greater interest in Dutch onions. In addition, the question is out Britain can be described as stable.

Because the export market is improving, processors and traders have come out of their shells. They can be found more often on the farm and they try to get their hands on onions. The regional fairs in Emmeloord and Middenmeer therefore changed the mood level from 'calm' to 'price-bearing' (Middenmeer) and 'firm' (Emmeloord).

Bale prices
The bale prices for triplets and the medium sorting are also a lot friendlier. There remains a wide price range in bale prices, but the top end of the triplets and medium grading is stronger. The bale prices for the coarse grades remain at the same level as in previous weeks.
