Agrifirm Plant's storage pool for seed onions amounts to €41,30 per 100 kilos, including the storage fee. That is the best result since the start. The onions in the pool were sold between December and April.
The basic price for delivery in December is €40,10 per 100 kilos and from week 1 a storage fee of €0,10 per 100 kilos will be paid. This is why it happens result for week 12 at €41,30. The sales season ended in mid-April with a price of €41,70. On top of the price, €0,10 per 100 kilos of member benefit is paid out.
Saving has paid off
The result of the short storage pool, which ran until mid-January, came works out at €33,10 per 100 kilos. Keeping it longer has certainly paid off this season. The prices achieved are, as is known, in stark contrast to the previous year.
The average stock exchange quotation for large seed onions in the same period (from December 1 to April 15) is €44,68 per 100 kilos. The 30% to 60% large onions came to €41,14 per 100 kilos (Emmeloord fair) and the category up to 30% was €33,22 per 100 kilos. All grades together amount to an average of €39,68 per 100 kilos. The long storage pool scores €1,62 per 100 kilos above this.
Little tare, good color
Agrifirm is satisfied with the tare percentage, which amounts to an average of 5%. The onions also had a nice color. It has been able to sell almost all the onions as first class for export. Of course, the extreme season resulted in considerably fewer kilos.
The cooperative sees more interest in the onion pools across the board. Maximum areas for the onion pool on land have been determined in each region, so that logistics and sales options can be properly coordinated. The maximum area has been filled in in the Northeast Netherlands. The short and long storage pools have no limitation. Interested parties can register for the storage pools up to the time of harvest.
Off-shore pool full, storage pools not
"We first gave our regular pool participants an opportunity to register for the off-shore pool," explains pool manager Luuk Kok of Agrifirm. "New growers were then also able to participate. Agrifirm consciously chose to keep the area for the farm-to-field pool limited and therefore ultimately no longer gave a number of growers the opportunity to participate."
Kok continues: "We were encouraged to participate in the storage pools. This is mainly due to the fact that everything must be well organized logistically during this period. We are trying to get onion growers enthusiastic about our storage pools when the logistics pressure after the harvest period. there isn't."
Kok also sees a slight increase in some other regions, for example in the southeast of the country. However, the traditional cultivation areas (such as Southwest Netherlands and Flevoland) do not show a major deviation in the expected area figures.
