The last free onions are now almost finished. The growers who dared to wait until the absolute end of the season to sell have been rewarded. The onion prices have made a final sprint.
The question exporters has increased especially at the end of the week. This has also allowed bale prices to rise, creating more room for farm prices. The price for the last onions has therefore made a good step this week.
The Emmeloord stock exchange allows significant price increases. €30 to €60 is quoted for 60% to 65% large onions and €60 to €60 for 68% large onions. This makes the last quotation of this season also the quotation with the highest prices.
Working supplies almost empty
At this rate, processors' work inventories will run out in 2 to 3 weeks. This means that the onion season in the Netherlands ends approximately 6 weeks earlier than normal. When stocks run out, exporters have alternatives available again. The early onions from Spain and Italy are coming onto the market and China can also play a significant role again.
