The last Dutch onions will be processed in the coming weeks. However, the onion growers are already busy with the new harvest. What sentiment is prevailing in the market, and what do the quotes show?
We are currently in the last weeks of the Dutch onion season. There are no longer any growers with free onions and the national onion supply is also shrinking rapidly. More and more processors are empty and stop running, while others switch to imported onions.
The processors that still have stock are also expected to be empty in the short term. The onion season is therefore ready 6 weeks earlier than normal. The bale prices for the last onions remain stable.
New harvest
Now that the season is almost over, Dutch processors and traders are focusing on the new cultivation. There is little to say about the new season, mostly because anything can happen during the growing season. This keeps processors calm. On the other hand, there is already some trade in early onion sets.
In Boerenbusiness The crop tour covers 7 onion plots spread across the country. Those onion plots were visited in week 20 and a first one was obtained attendance figure emerged. This shows that the plots are currently in varying positions.
