In general, the onion sets are in good shape at the moment. The first onion sets set this year will therefore be lifted soon. What else is happening in the onion market?
The first winter onions were harvested in week 24 in the province of Zeeland. Following on from that activity, many processors and growers have also started harvesting winter onions this week. The growth of the early onion onions is also progressing well. It is therefore expected that early onion onion varieties will come onto the market in the first week of July. This means that the overwintering onion sets are quickly followed by the onion sets set this year.
Few transactions
The 'buying violence' on the onion market has not yet broken out. Most processors have secured the onions early, so they currently have good volumes and are not forced to purchase onions now. As a result, there is no reference price and the market still needs to be set.
