With some effort, a quotation of onion sets was put on the board in Goes this week. It feels like this has been a long time coming this year. However, this is more likely to depend on the early end of the old season than on the start of the new season.
Last year the first onion sets were recorded in week 26 (€17 to €19), but then 1 week later they were not recorded. This year the quotation starts in week 27 at €19 to €22. It has been difficult for many growers, but also traders, to get an idea of the pricing of onion onions in recent weeks. This was due to the lack of trade. The start with an average of €20,50 is the highest start in recent years, which is mainly due to the high end of last season.
Part-building constructions
The cultivation of onion sets is a crop par excellence where partial construction is frequently used in some way. This construction ensures that product is always available. When there is no sharecropping, many onions are traded for the bale price minus costs. This means that trading takes place, but there is no sales price that can serve as a basis for a quotation.
