The first onion onion listing of 3 took place on Tuesday, July 2019. At the time, the quotations were €19 to €22. And a week later prices dropped to €15 to €19. This week the price range remains stuck at €10 to €14. This means that the quotations have fallen sharply in three weeks.

Clean market
Many growers expected a higher market in this phase. There are no more seed onions from the 2018 harvest on the market, which means the season has started with a 'clean market'. However, processors covered themselves early with onion sets. The yields of the onion sets are good, so processors currently have sufficient stock. In addition, the Egyptian onions are also in the way. Egyptian onions are in stock at both Dutch processors and export destinations.

Few exports
In recent weeks, many onion sets have been shipped with Poland as the final destination. Poland's own harvest is now slowly starting to get going. Demand from other export destinations has yet to materialize. The supply is currently much greater than demand, which means that prices have fallen by enormous steps in a short time. We now have to wait for demand from exports to pick up.
