Dutch onion exports continued well in week 32. In short, there are 3 driving forces that are boosting Dutch onion exports today. Brazil and Poland are also currently purchasing a lot of large onions. The high-quality onions go to Brazil and Poland serves the bottom end of the market.

Less availability
For medium grade onions, exports to West Africa are starting to improve. A boat is planned to leave for West Africa at short notice. This is one of the reasons for the extra demand that has arisen on the onion market this week. On the other hand, it is not yet clear when the market to Senegal will open.

Grower prices have risen due to this increased demand. The regional fair in Goes notes a plus of €1,50 for onion onions from the field, which brings the price to €9 to €11. The prices for onion onions from storage will increase by €1, resulting in a quotation of €11 to €12. There is a settled mood among onion growers.

Seed onions
The first sowing onions will come onto the market in the coming weeks and the first plots have already been cleared. The traders are mainly looking for seed onions that can be harvested in the short term. The stock exchange in Emmeloord started listing seed onions this week. They quote €10 to €12,50 for seed onions that can be delivered quickly.

Due to the increase in acreage for seed onions, traders remain cautious about purchasing seed onions for the later period. The regional stock exchange in Emmeloord quotes €8 to €12 for seed onions.
