The market for onion sets was booming last week a revival. Because onions could not be harvested due to the rain, the demand for dry onion onions from the shed increased. Now that the rain has made way for drier and warmer weather, the situation is completely different. There is sufficient availability of onion sets again and the seed onions are also coming onto the market. This creates pressure on the onion sets.

Own harvest in Brazil
Exporters have a broad demand for Dutch onions. Demand from Brazil is, however, declining. Brazil has imported many onion sets for a number of weeks in a row, but they will soon switch to their own harvest. As a result, demand will decline (for now). West Africa is on the market, although we have to wait until the market to Senegal opens up. This will be discussed on Monday, August 26.

The regional fairs in Goes and Emmeloord recorded a negative difference this week for both onion onions and seed onions. The regional stock exchange in Middenmeer published a quotation for seed onions for the first time this week. €9 to €11 was quoted.
