The carrot market is reasonably balanced, so trading is not very wild at the moment. Although the acreage is larger, the yields in the European Union are less. In addition, the demand continues well. There is more demand for coarse carrots than for fine carrots.
Storage carrots can still benefit from the rain this week. That is also necessary, because the tons are not yet as high as expected. Because growers are still waiting for extra growth, the harvest will probably start a little later. The carrot is currently mainly sold for export.
Although the demand is not very good, rinsers do have more work to do. This is because the quality is not great. There is less demand for the finer carrots, which means prices are slightly lower. On the other hand, the price is higher for the somewhat coarser B-carrot.
Slightly increasing price
The DCA quotation for carrots results in a price range of €9 to €12 per 100 kilos for B-carrot and C-carrot. That is €0,50 higher than last week. The prices for biopeen are higher: around €23 to €25 per tonne. However, there is a declining market, as there is currently more supply than demand for biopeen.
