Onion prices (dry from storage) seem to be moving slightly in the Netherlands. How are the prices for onions elsewhere in Europe?
The onion harvest is nearing the finish line in Europe. Compared to last year, many countries have a higher yield per hectare. Poland seems to be an exception to that rule. Polish wholesale prices move between €23 and €32 per 100 kilos, which is on average €9 higher than last year in week 41 and €16 higher than in 2017.
In Germany, a price stabilization is visible at an average of €17,50, compared to €35,50 last year. So that is more than halving. In 2017, however, the price level was on average €10 per 100 kilos for medium sorting, delivered in Big Bags from the sorting company.
Rise in France
In Austria the price level is on average €25,50. That is €4,50 below the level of last year, but €11,50 higher than in 2017. These are grower prices for sorted onions ex-company. French growers saw grower prices rise slightly this week to a price range of €10 to €12 per 100 kilos. In the previous 4 weeks, prices remained stable at an average of €10.
