Exporters had their hands full with the export of onions in week 42. The usual destinations from West Africa purchased many onions from the Netherlands that week. In addition, there is sufficient demand from other parts of the world. There is also a demand for Dutch onions in the Middle East and the Far East and importers from Central America are also entering the Dutch market. The total export volume for this season is now over 292.000 ton. This means that exports are ahead of the volumes achieved in previous years.

Firmer again
The onions are still on the fields in various parts of the country. From the estimate that Boerenbusiness published earlier this week, it appears that approx 5.000 hectares of onions still remain on the land. These farmers have been sidelined for longer than expected due to the precipitation. Delivery will be more regular next week, so the harvest from the last plots of land will be in full swing again.

Not only farmers have to wait for favorable harvest conditions, but also processors. Many of the onions that are still in the fields are already in the hands of the processors. Because onions could not be harvested in recent weeks, the supply to the packers also dropped. As a result, the demand for onions from storage has increased.

Stock exchange quotations
The increased demand for onions from storage has caused a revival in prices. Both the quotations in Goes and Emmeloord are increasing. If all 3 regional fairs are compared, €10 to €13,50 is paid for the onions from storage.
