It has been long days in the fields. With next week's wet weather forecast, many growers felt pressure to get their crops in this week.

Prior to this week, the necessary onions also had to be harvested. The sector estimated that in mid-October 5.000 hectares seed onions still had to be harvested and/or loaded. The dry days this week and the hard work have achieved significant results. According to insiders, at least 95% of the onion area will have been loaded by the end of this week. The situation is most exciting in the northernmost provinces (North Holland, Friesland, Groningen).

Quality seems reasonable
Although the color of the onions has deteriorated considerably due to the rain, the quality of the onions that arrive seems reasonable. Most problems that occur are in areas with regrowth (particularly in areas without MH spraying).

little trade
Because many onions were harvested this week, the working supplies of processors have also been replenished. With the exception of a few off-field lots, processors have purchased few additional onions. They first remove the off-field batches before actively looking for onions from storage again.

This week the stock exchange committee in Emmeloord changed the mood of the onions from storage from price-loving to calm. The opposite happened for onions from the field. While a calm mood was outlined last week, the stock exchange committee indicated a price-oriented mood this week. As far as the odds are concerned, little else changed this week. All regional fair committees recorded unchanged this week.

Stable export
Trade has been stable for exporters for several weeks. The demand is broad and good and there are hardly any changes in bale prices.
