Many different export destinations demand onions from the Netherlands. This is also visible in the export figure for week 42. Where does it come in?
In week 42, 31.243 tons of onions were exported from the Netherlands. That puts the season's total at 382.545 tonnes, with an average export of 23.909 tonnes per week. It is striking that the demand for Dutch onions is broad. For example, in week 42, no fewer than 82 countries purchased onions from the Netherlands. If we only look at the destinations that purchased more than 1.000 tons of onions, this leaves Senegal, Ivory Coast, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Guinea, Mali, Great Britain and Mauritania.
The largest destinations
Senegal purchased the most Dutch onions in week 42. In that week it took off 9.362 tons. Ivory Coast takes second place with 5.816 tons. Malaysia is in third place in week 42, with a purchase of 2.555 tonnes.
A notable customer is in fourth place: Sri Lanka. This country purchased 42 tons of onions from the Netherlands in week 1.523, bringing the season's total to 3.810 tons. These figures are somewhat striking, because in previous years the country did not purchase onions during this period of the year.
