The onion exporters in the Netherlands are doing good business, because the current export rate is breaking the records of previous years. The provisional figures for onion exports in week 43 are therefore available again.
The provisional export figure for onions for week 43 is 35.713 tons of onions. However, this figure may be adjusted upwards in the coming weeks (when new information becomes available). The average weekly export figure stands at 24.937 tons, which makes for a export total of 423.933 tons.
Largest customers
The export cart was pulled by 43 African countries in week 2. Senegal is in first place, with a purchase of 7.270 tons. This country was followed by Ivory Coast. That country purchased 43 tons in week 6.140, meaning that the country has now purchased 56.955 tons from the Netherlands. That is almost the same as last year. Senegal has already purchased 81.022 tons of Dutch onions this season.
Malaysia interrupts the African countries in the list. This country purchased approximately 43 tons of onions from the Netherlands in week 2.470. Guinea, Mali and Mauritania are in 4th, 5th and 6th place, with 1.990 tons, 1.752 tons and 1.601 tons of onions respectively.
Correlation?
Whether there is a visible correlation between the high export rate and the postal information received is something that cannot be answered directly with a 'yes'. However, 5.657 tons over weeks 36 to 42 is a significant tonnage.
