According to several onion exporters, the market is currently very busy. Is this also visible in the export figures for week 46?
If we look at the Dutch export market, it is still (relatively) quiet in week 46. The provisional export figure is 28.685 tons of onions, raising the seasonal total to 516.662 tons. The weekly average this season is 25.833 tons. Although the export figure for week 46 not bad is, exporters indicate that the past 2 weeks have been very good. Higher export figures can therefore be expected in the coming weeks. The export record of 38.880 tons (in week 46 of 2017) may even be broken.
Largest customers
The largest buyers of Dutch onions in week 46 are the well-known destinations from Africa. Senegal and Ivory Coast purchased 4.642 tons and 4.200 tons of onions from the Netherlands respectively in the week in question. The Philippines follows in third place, but they mainly purchase red onions.
