The record year for the Dutch onion export was established in the 2017 cultivation year, but that record is now in danger of being broken. The figures for week 48 are ahead of the record year, which means that there is already a new 'sub-record'.
The provisional figures for week 48 show that 34.423 tons of Dutch onions were exported. This brings the season's total (up to and including week 48) to 591.770 tons of onions, setting a new record. This is because in no previous season, up to week 48, so many onions were exported. The 2017 growing season comes closest (578.026 tons). It also means that the current season is about 2,4% ahead of the record year. At the end of the journey, 1.148.002 tons of onions were on the export counter.
Senegal remains important
The average weekly export this season is currently 26.899 tons. The most important country this week is also Senegal. This country purchased approximately 48 tons of onions from the Netherlands in week 8.904. This brings the seasonal total to this country to 113.227 tonnes. After Senegal, the other major power from East Africa follows: Ivory Coast. In week 48, this country purchased 3.967 tons. Sri Lanka is the third largest buyer, with 2.948 tons of onions.
