Will there still be demand for onions after the turn of the year?

Many onions were exported during the first months of this growing season. After all, there is currently a large and broad demand for Dutch onions. Will the good question continue after the New Year?

Packers are still working at full speed in the week before Christmas. The number of destinations in Africa will decrease from January, which means that packers would still like to benefit from the current booming demand. The fact that demand from Africa decreases in January is an annual fact. Many destinations then switch to local harvests. On the other hand, good news has arrived from the largest destination in Africa, because Senegal will receive Dutch onions until at least mid-January. 

Little day trading
Few new batches of onions were purchased this week. The packers want to complete their obligations before Christmas and there is also uncertainty about demand after the New Year. The new destinations from Asia are currently the market for yellow onions and red onions. However, it is still unclear whether these destinations will remain on the market once India has its own onions again. 

Bale prices remain stable this week at €21 for the most common sizes. Due to the calm mood, there is little change in farm prices. The stock exchange prices in Middenmeer and Goes both increased slightly. View the odds here.
