The strength of Dutch onion exports will once again be on display at the end of 2019. Over the last 10 announced weeks (up to and including week 49), the Dutch export BV exported an average of 33.097 tons. Never before have so many onions been exported during the first months of a harvest year. With the published figures up to week 49, the counter already stands at 623.743 tonnes. This amounts to an average export of 27.119 tons per week.

With 30.276 tons of onions exported, the most recent export figures are also good. The largest customer will come as no surprise: Senegal. It imported 5.496 tons of Dutch onions in week 49. After Senegal, Ivory Coast is the largest buyer, with 4.964 tons of imported onions. Sri Lanka takes third place with 3.143 tonnes. When Sri Lanka contacted Dutch exporters at the end of September, they mainly purchased red onions. In recent weeks, in addition to red onions, yellow onions have also been crossing the border.
