Onion processors have a busy week ahead of them in the first full week of 2020. Because Dutch onions can still be exported to Senegal until January 15, exports are trying to make optimal use of this period. A boat is therefore planned for next week with shipments to Africa.

Back a notch
It is still unclear how demand will develop after next week. It is likely that Senegal will assess around January 15 whether there is still a need for a larger volume of Dutch onions. As usual, other destinations in Africa also slow down quite a bit in January. Destinations in Asia have also been good markets for Dutch onions in recent months. It is expected that India will have its own harvest again at the beginning of February.

Due to the holidays, few additional onions have been purchased by traders and packers recently. Only the Emmeloord stock exchange has released a quotation this week. This quotation is unchanged compared to the last quotation released in week 51. The bale prices have also remained unchanged.
