Holidays or not, the pace of export onions remains high

The pace of onion exports has remained high up to the holiday season. This is shown by the latest onion export figures for the past calendar year. In week 51 of 2019, Africa will again set the tone in the sales of Dutch onions.

The export of Dutch onions was more than good in the first half of the 2019-2020 season. There was no delay at all towards the holidays. Based on provisional figures, the export figure for week 51 is 35.050 tonnes. This means that this season of the 2019 harvest has already been 14 weeks with more than 30.000 tons of exports. This results in a seasonal total in the first half of 2019/20 of 695.948 tonnes of exports.

Senegal was the largest buyer in week 11.821 with 51 tonnes, followed by Ivory Coast with 4.095 tonnes, Malaysia with 2.819 tonnes, Philippines with 2.464 tonnes and Gambia with 1.620 tonnes. The postal information was significant at 5.089 tons and concerned the adjustments from weeks 40 to 50.
