Many onions have been packed this week for the (provisional) last shipment to Senegal. As a result, the onion market is in a transition period, with the focus being on other destinations.
On January 11, the last boat with onions for Senegal of this season will leave on January XNUMX. It is not known whether new licenses will be issued later this month. If this is the case, additional volume will be exported to Senegal.
Other destinations from Africa are now also slowing down, because local harvest is expected in the short term. It is still unclear how the market in Asia will develop. The onion market is therefore in a transition period. It is unclear which markets will be leading the charge in the near future and what volumes will be associated with this.
Bought little extra
The trade fair associations in Middenmeer and Emmeloord indicate a calm mood. Because the onion sector is in a transition period, few additional onions are being purchased. Most packing stations have sufficient stock for the rest of the month, so there is no need to buy additional onions. The mood among growers is against this. Especially the 'beautiful' games from before the rain are not easily released.
There are few observable changes in stock market prices. The Goes and Middenmeer stock exchanges are trading unchanged. The listings of the regional stock exchange in Emmeloord are under some pressure. The 30-60% coarse sorting decreases by €0.50 to a quotation of €12 to €14 and the 60% upward sorting decreases by €0.25 to a quotation of €12 to €15.
