In the Dutch onion sector, the export volumes of the last weeks of 2019 have come a long way. Does week 1 of 2020 start just as well?
The first export figures of 2020 amount to 10.441 tons of onions. Due to New Year's Eve, packers were unable to work all week. As a result, the export volume is significantly lower than the average volume of 26.966 tons achieved in this season. In terms of volume, a total of 1 tons of onions were exported up to and including week 728.079.
In week 2 of 2020, many onions were still packed for the Senegalese onion market. After this, exports became a lot quieter. As a result, there is little demand for Dutch onions now (week 4). The largest buyer in week 1 is Malaysia with 1.798 tons of onions. Second place is taken by Ivory Coast with 907 tons of onions. Third place goes to the Philippines with 897 tons.
