Onion grower maintains confidence in onion market

Dutch packers of onions have been very quiet in recent weeks. Nevertheless, the onion growers have confidence in the market. Their mood is 'fixed'.

De export figures of week 2 of this year can be described as exceptionally good. According to preliminary figures, 34.169 tons of onions were exported this week, bringing the season's total to 762.321 tons. However, after the good exports of week 2, packers and exporters are very calm, as most African destinations have switched to local markets. According to exporters, there are currently no signs that export volumes will increase significantly in the coming weeks. 

Small negative correction
The regional stock exchanges are all trading with a small negative correction compared to last week. When all quotations are compared, €30 to €60 is paid for the 11 to 13% coarse grading and €60 to €12 per 14,50 kilos for the 100% upward grading. Despite the quiet exports, the mood among farmers is still very stable. They are not willing to sell onions now. January and February are traditionally quiet periods and adjustments also result harvest estimate figures only causes the mood to become even more determined.
