Stock measurement VTA: red popular, yellow less

24 February 2020 - Niels van der Boom

The stock of yellow and red onions among members of the growers' organization VTA is around the multi-year average. The organization draws that conclusion after their second poll of the 2019-2020 season. The free stock is slightly larger than average.

VTA does not mention kilos, but says that in their so-called 'reference group' (a fixed group of growers surveyed) 50% of the 2019 harvest has been delivered. This percentage is in line with the multi-year average. The 2018 harvest has been filtered out, because this influences the average too much. These figures are hardly surprising, given that the yields were also average.

More red sold
A good 46% of the yellow onions has been delivered, 90% of the onion sets and 42% for red onions. 1% of the total stock had already been sold on 22 February. This is slightly less than is normally the case. The average is between 25% and 28%. Significantly more red was sold in advance (34%) than yellow (19%). As a result, the absolute free stock of red is lower than average.
