The figures of the Dutch onion export for week 12 have undergone a significant change. These figures were published last week and were very disappointing. They have now been firmly corrected. How come?
When onions are exported overseas, the KCB sets the shipped volumes as standard. As a result, the exported onions that enter the seagoing vessel are generally registered quite accurately. For sales within Europe, exporters must specify the volumes themselves. There is often some delay in this, which means that the export figures can be significantly adjusted due to subsequent figures.
Because exports in week 12 were mainly focused on European (retail) destinations, the export volume will be significantly adjusted this week due to subsequent items. While a volume of 13.988 tonnes was published last week, this figure has now been increased to 18.112 tonnes.
Mauritania major customer
The provisional export figures for week 13 amount to 14.352 tonnes, and an adjustment is also expected for these figures in the coming weeks. The total export figure for the 2019 growing season now amounts to 979.049 tons. This amounts to an average of 25.104 tons per week.
The largest buyer in week 13 is Mauritania with 1.638 tons of imported onions from the Netherlands. Great Britain follows with 1.541 tons. The top 3 is completed by Israel with 1.344 tons. In addition, Germany also imports more than 13 tons of Dutch onions in week 1.000.
