European destinations dominate onion exports

The demand for Dutch onions mainly comes from Europe. Which European destinations are at the top of the export lists?

The most recent export figures (week 15) represent an export volume of 13.319 tons. In previous weeks, the export figures have been significantly adjusted. This week there has also been an adjustment due to delayed items, but the volume is more limited than previous weeks. The export figures from week 10 to week 14 will be increased by a total of 731 tons.

Stranger in our midst
This brings the total exported volume of the 2019 growing season to 1.021.833 tons. This means that the 2019 growing season is still on track to achieve an export record. In the current record season of the 2017 harvest, the total exported volume in week 15 was 984.516 tons.

European destinations dominate demand in week 15. There are 5 destinations in this week with an import volume of more than 1.000 tons of onions. Of this, 80% comes from Europe. Great Britain purchases the most onions with 1.159 tons. Germany follows in second place with 1.121 tons of onions. The odd one out is Mauritania with 1.034 tons. Spain and Serbia are the other destinations with an import volume of more than 1.000 tons.
