Since there has been more demand on the onion market in recent weeks, many growers are hoping for a price recovery. However, the market is entering the final phase of the season, how long do growers want to wait before selling their onions?
Following on from last week, packers also had reasonable work this week. Demand mainly comes from quality destinations in Europe (such as Germany). Last week Brazil also ordered onions from the Netherlands again. The volumes are not as high as at the start of the season, but a number of orders are still ready for next week.
Despite demand from Brazil and Germany, overall demand remains too low to drive up bale prices. The bale price therefore remains stable at the levels of recent weeks. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Uien.
Trade continues on the farm. Many lots are still good now, but since it is already May and processors still need some time to collect the onions, time is now running out. People now want to sell the onions before the quality no longer meets the requirements of the trade. This ensures that there is sufficient supply for packers to obtain onions.
Stock market prices are showing a slight increase this week. When we compare all quotations, €30 to €60 is paid for the 12-16% coarse grading and €60 to €13 for the 17% coarse grading.
