Export onions are slowly gaining steam

The onion export figures for the third week of the 2020/2021 season are now available. Slowly, a little more body is visible in the figures, compared to the other countries that are leading the way.

The GroentenFruit Huis today announced the provisional export figures for week 29, which is the third week of the new season. After having a European country in the lead for a number of weeks, an African country can now carry the flag. In week 29, Ivory Coast purchased 1.752 tons of onions, compared to 507 tons in the previous week. The total purchase this season is 3.362 tons, compared to 1.987 tons last season. Ivory Coast accounted for the purchase of 109.000 tons of Dutch onions last season.

Second place was taken by Guinea with 1.555 tonnes, raising the season's total to 2.140 tonnes. Great Britain had to settle for third place in week 29 (a decrease of 1.300 tons). In this season's total purchase, the British are still in the lead with 4.188 tons.

Average weekly export
In the first 3 weeks, a cumulative 26.311 tons of onions were exported, compared to 25.516 in the 2019/2020 season and 42.907 tons in the previous season. The average weekly export figure currently stands at 8.770 tons and the volume of subsequent information was 74 tons.
