There is little trade on the farm, onion sets and seed onions get in each other's way. The recent hot weather has caused the harvest in the onion sets to be postponed and the seed onions can be harvested earlier than initially thought.

At the moment, many packers still have the necessary obligations regarding onion sets that they first want to eliminate. In addition, many onions were purchased at an earlier stage for relatively high prices. With the sowing onions approaching, there is therefore little desire to buy among the packers.

Commotion through Senegal
Hopefully the opening of the Senegalese onion market will create more excitement on the market. There has been speculation for a long time about the opening of the market. On Thursday, August 20, the redeeming word came. The onion market is open immediately, which means that onions can again be exported to the usually largest buyer of Dutch onions.

In addition to Senegal, Ivory Coast is also currently a good buyer of Dutch onions. In fact, most demand currently comes from West Africa. In Europe, Great Britain is a constant buyer, but otherwise demand is still low. Demand from Asia and Central and South America is currently still limited.
