The most recent export figures (week 33) are already the seventh export figures published this season. The figures for week 33 are of a very different caliber than at the start of the season.
While the export figures in the first weeks of this season did not exceed 20.000 tons, week 33 is good for an export volume of 34.405 tons of onions. The season's total now stands at 114.132 tons of exported onions. This amounts to an average export of 16.305 tons per week. The total exported volume of this season is now approximately 7.500 tons ahead of last season. An important note here is that the market to Senegal opened later last season than this year.
Impact on exports
The opening of the onion market in Senegal has quite an impact on the Dutch export market. The large increase in export volume in week 33 can be entirely attributed to Senegal. Senegal is good for an export of 15.777 tons, which means it accounts for almost half of the Dutch export volume.
The Senegalese onion market only officially opened in week 34. Because the onions left Dutch waters in week 33, these export figures have been included in the export figures for week 33.
With 3.913 tons of onions behind, Ivory Coast is the second largest buyer in week 33. Third place is taken by Great Britain with 1.646 tons. In addition, there are four other destinations (all from West Africa) that purchase more than 33 tons in week 1.000. Mauritania, Mali, Guinea and Gambia therefore have a considerable share in the export figures.
