78 countries provide a good export figure on onions

The latest export figures for onions once again provide insight into what made the sorting companies so busy in week 37. All points of the compass participate, although there are significant differences to be discovered.

In week 37, based on provisional export figures, 30.783 tons of onions crossed the border, to a total of 78 purchasing countries. Traditionally, African buyers dominate the top 10 at this time of year. As expected, Senegal tops the total list with 8.212 tonnes, increasing the total volume to 42.962 tonnes. Ivory Coast purchased 5.337 tons of onions, good for 35.482 tons this season. Mali takes third place with 1.745 tons, good for a decrease of 9.633 tons.

Great Britain has 1.545 tons on paper, bringing this season's export result to 22.632 tons. Malaysia and Brazil are long-distance destinations that account for 1.189 tons and 521 tons respectively.

The total export figure provisionally stands at 224.076 tonnes, against last year's final figure of 235.425 tonnes. The average weekly export figure is 20.370 tons. Subsequent export information for the period week 31 to week 36 included an additional item of 1.274 tons.
