The demand for Dutch onions is a lot wider this week than in the previous period. Demand from Africa is stable, the surplus in Senegal has largely been eliminated and other African destinations are also frequently on the market for Dutch onions.

More demand from Asia
Demand from Asia has also increased. Malaysia is in the yellow onion market and countries normally served by India, including Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, are ordering a lot of red onions. Destinations from Asia mainly require onions in small packages. This means that packers have plenty of work, but the volume that goes out is still limited compared to onions for Africa.

It has become more difficult for processors to buy onions at the farm. Most of the onions have been shipped in and the onions from the field have often already found a buyer. Growers who have brought in the onions have no need to let the onions go easily now.

The stock exchange committee in Emmeloord indicated a price-containing mood in last Thursday's quotation for yellow onions, which means that the supply is less than or equal to the demand. However, there are still a number of batches that have been stored for a short period that will soon have to be removed because the potatoes have to be put in the shed.

This week, both delivery from land and delivery from storage were noted. When all quotations are compared, €8 to €11 is quoted from land and €11 to €13 from storage. Bale prices have been at a stable level in recent weeks. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.

In Emmeloord there has also been a registration for red onions. The quotation on land is €13 to €16 and for storage it is €16 to €18. In addition, the necessary lots have also been purchased in the long term.
