Asian buyers are among the top onion exports

The onion export this season is more dependent on African buyers than in other years. In week 38, Asian buyers also reported to Dutch exporters.

The (provisional) export figures of week 38 are just short of 30.000 tons. The 29.376 tons results in a seasonal total of 254.114 tons, which means an average export of 21.176 tons per week. With a backlog of 5.462 tons, the season is reasonably in line with the export figures of the previous growing season.

The largest buyer in week 38 is again Senegal. The West Africans buy 8.212 tons of onions, bringing the season total to 50.684 tons. The Ivory Coast is also doing well in the Dutch onion market this week. With a volume of 5.294 tons, the season will total 40.777 tons. This is just under 10.000 tons more than last year. The third place in the export top 3 is taken by Mali with 1.780 tons.

Buyers from Asia show themselves a lot more in week 38 than in previous weeks. 1.708 tons go to buyers from the Philippines and Malaysia also accounts for a purchase of 1.093 tons.
