The CBS harvest estimate published this week gives an indication of the number of onions to be exported this year. The export of these onions is going extremely well at the moment.
This week more became clear about the national yields. The Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) released the preliminary harvest estimate out. Statistics Netherlands assumes an average yield of 49,50 tons. This year it is noticeable that there are large differences in turnout, as the range between moderate and good turnout is very large.
According to CBS figures, a gross total of 1.350.337 tons of seed onions and 349.617 tons of onion onions were harvested this year. Some of this remains within the Dutch market or is processed in industry (which is not included in the export figures). Of the other onions, 41 tons of onions have already been exported up to and including week 375.764. The reports about onion exports remain positive, and the latest published figures are also excellent at more than 37.500 tons. It is clear from exporters that there has been a lot of demand for Dutch onions, even in the export weeks that have not yet been published.
Prices up.
Farm prices have risen sharply in the short term. While last week only a few packers paid €20 in advance, this price is now widely accepted among all packers. With the strong demand from exports, packers must maintain their working inventory, which means they are forced to purchase additional onions.
The regional fair committees once again all recorded a positive difference this week. When the odds are compared, €16 to €19 is paid, with the differences between 30% to 60% rough and 60% upward close to each other.
With rising farm prices, processors are forced to increase bale prices, and they have also succeeded this week. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
