The export of onions is still going well. These are the destinations that have already been described in previous weeks that are still on the market for Dutch onions. To date, the higher bale prices have not deterred destinations.

Question from Asia
There is more demand for Dutch onions this year, especially from Asia. The figures up to and including week 43 show that Asian destinations have already exported 54.517 tons of onions this year, these figures are more than 31% ahead of a year earlier. The volume exported to Asia in week 42 is approximately 12% of the total export figure. In the unpublished weeks (44 to 46), demand from Asia has also been significant, which means that the market share of Asian destinations is likely to increase in the coming weeks.

As mentioned, demand from Asia is present. One problem that arises with this is the availability of containers. The supply of onions in Asia is mainly via containers. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, the availability of containers has been out of balance. Exporters are increasingly confronted with this. This ensures that there is enough demand for Dutch onions, but that this demand cannot always be met.

There are few changes at the regional fairs this week. Only the Goes stock exchange increased the onion quotation by €0.50 to €18 to €21. The stock exchange committees in Emmeloord and Middenmeer both indicate a price-oriented mood, which means that supply is smaller than demand.

Bale prices have been able to take a step in recent weeks. €25 to €27 is charged for the most common sizes. An overview of the bale prices can be seen in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
