Release all brakes for high speed in onion export

An unprecedented pace is maintained by onion exporters in the Netherlands this season. Senegal's lead on last season is not very large, which means that other buyers have had to contribute to the export result. Which are they?

The fact that onion exports are developing so exceptionally this season was an unforeseeable surprise. The onion provides a positive note in the sales of arable crops, which are generally gloomy. Based on preliminary information, 44 tons of onions were exported in week 37.666. In addition to Africa, Asia is also among the top 5 largest buyers.

The leader in week 44 is Senegal with 5.114 tons. The Senegalese thus raise the import total of Dutch onions to 91.415 tons, only 3.095 tons more than last year. Ivory Coast, number 2 in the rankings, has much more purchasing desire than last year. So far, 73.884 tons of onions have been shipped to Ivory Coast, more than 12.300 tons than in the same period in 2019. Ivory Coast accounted for the purchase of 44 tons in week 4.978.

Export cart to the far east
In the far east, the Philippines and Bangladesh lead the exports, with 3.022 tons and 2.639 tons respectively. The lead of the Philippines has now increased to 14.986 tons (+400%), while Bangladesh has not purchased any Dutch onions in recent years.

The export counter now stands at 490.387 tons compared to 463.441 tons last season, a lead of 26.946 tons. With the information from week 44, the average weekly export amounts to 27.243 tons.
