Since the onion storage period started, the prices of the regional agricultural fairs have not fallen again. This week this changed for the first time this storage season.
Once again, the latest published export figures are very successful. For the third time in a row, export figures exceed the limit 40.000 ton onions out. The export figures are always a few weeks behind, but at the moment export demand is significantly calmer. Customers who have received onions in recent weeks currently have enough onions available.
Getting rid of stocks
As a result, the situation on the farm is also quite calm. Processors first work through stocks and have no incentive to buy more onions due to the quiet export. The stock exchange committees in Middenmeer and Emmeloord describe the market as quiet and dull, which means that supply exceeds demand.
The calm situation among processors has ensured that bale prices have fallen. Processors still have sufficient stocks that they do not want to hold on to for too long. As a result, onions are offered at lower prices and bale prices have fallen. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
Negative rating
For the first time since mid-September, the regional stock exchange committees recorded negative stock. At the time, the onion market was entering the off-farm period and prices dropped due to the off-field pressure this entailed. Onion prices then started to rise until they stabilized at the beginning of November. This week the sorting 60% upwards in Emmeloord has been adjusted downwards by €1, all other rankings show a negative difference of €0,50. With all odds side by side, €17 to €20 is paid.
