It is hardly a cause for concern anymore, export weeks of 40.000 tons and more onions. This season already has 5 weeks of such weeks, 4 of which are consecutive. In which continents were the buyers of the largest volumes mainly located in week 48?
An unprecedented export season is emerging so far. To refresh your memory, a season that got off to a hesitant and slow start and where nothing seemed like it would be possible to pulverize records at all. But things can change. Misery for one person sometimes offers opportunities for another. And when all that comes together, the Netherlands is at its strongest.
Senegal at the top
With a provisional export figure of 41.762 tons, week 48 ranks among the better export weeks. There will undoubtedly be other weeks to come, given the odds and votes from last and this week, but there is no sign of this until week 48.
The buyers with the largest volume live on the African continent or in Southeast Asia during the export week mentioned. Senegal is at the top with a volume of 7.831 tons, this season is good for sales of 126.744 tons. The second largest customer is also located in Africa, Ivory Coast, which purchased 6.990 tons of onions and in the total purchase is only 4.227 tons away from the 100.000-ton limit. Mauritania is in fifth place with 2.700 tonnes, with a seasonal total of 5 tonnes.
In the far east, Malaysia, Bangladesh and the Philippines have done good business with Dutch exporters. The purchase of the countries mentioned was 3.262 tons, 3.190 tons and 2.242 tons respectively.
Increased total
The total export figure currently stands at 666.172 tons, compared to 595.311 tons last year, which corresponds to an increase of approximately 12% (70.861 tons). On average, 30.280 tons of onions were exported every week. The postal export information received for weeks 45, 46 and 47 amounted to a volume of 624 tonnes.
