It is quiet on the onion market, 2 of the 3 regional stock exchange commissions did not issue a listing this week because too few transactions were submitted.
The most recent export figures do not correspond to the current situation on the export market. The latest figures amount to 41.762 tons, which means that the export figures for week 48 exceed 40.000 tons for the fourth time in a row. Three weeks later, exports have calmed down considerably. Demand from Asia in particular is a lot less than a few weeks ago. Exports to Africa are currently mainly dependent on boats that are or are not loaded. When a boat is loaded, this provides an extra incentive. There is currently little demand for onions from Europe, onions are even offered in the Netherlands from countries such as Germany and France.
Few transactions
The stock exchange committees in Middenmeer and Goes had too few transactions this week to achieve a listing. In Emmeloord, the stock exchange committee describes the onion market as quiet. It indicates that few additional lots are purchased from the farm. There are currently enough onions and the situation on the export market is being patiently awaited. It is only listed in Emmeloord, the stock exchange quotes roughly €30 to €60 for the 17-19% and €60 to €17 for the 18% upwards.
Because it is significantly quieter among the processors, bale prices are under pressure. Because there is little demand for large onions from exports, this size grading in the bale has dropped over the past 2 weeks. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
