While purchasing onions is normally an indicator of the hectic sales, that comparison appears to be flawed this season. In week 51, based on preliminary information, 29.609 tons of onions crossed the border, of which 34% were destined for Senegal. This made Senegal head and shoulders above the rest, because number 2 on the export list was Ivory Coast with 'only' 2.611 tons. Senegal's export total now stands at 153.396 tons and that of Ivory Coast at 110.505 tons. Last season, the total purchase from Senegal was 170.498 tons and from Ivory Coast 109.464 tons.

To the Far East, Indonesia and Malaysia were the largest buyers, while only 403 tons were shipped to the Philippines. Malaysia bought 2.016 tons of onions, reaching a provisional seasonal total of 31.820 tons (last year's total 64.929 tons).

Within Europe, Great Britain was the largest customer with 1.719 tons, followed by Belgium with 521 tons and Germany with 376 tons.

For the 2020-2021 season, the export counter for the Netherlands is 766.445 tons, which gives a weekly average of 30.657 tons. The volume of subsequent information was 543 tons and only related to export information from week 50.
