The first half of the export season went very well. According to provisional figures, 811.379 tons of onions have been exported until the turn of the year. This results in an unprecedented weekly average of 30.051 tons of onions.

European destinations
With the start of the second half of the season (after New Year's Eve), these weekly averages are no longer an issue. The market now has to switch from a lot of overseas exports to exports to European destinations. Most of these European destinations usually only report later in the season. This means that exports will be a lot quieter in the first two weeks of this year.

Exporters indicate that they had a little more work this week than the first weeks of 2021. Some additional (re)orders from Africa and orders from Asia meant that they had a little more work to do. It is indicated that there are still few orders for next week. The question is therefore whether this export demand will continue.

Quiet
The demand for onions has been quiet on the farm for some time. There is now more demand from a number of processors because stocks are starting to shrink. The farmer is currently mainly supplying lots with a minor defect.

The regional stock exchanges in Middenmeer and Goes both show a negative difference in their quotes this week. While the stock exchange committee in Middenmeer sets the bottom of the quotation at €15, this bottom in Goes is €0,50 higher. Both committees set the top of the quote at €17. In Emmeloord, €1 is deducted from the bottom of the quote and €1 is added at the top, which brings the quote to €15 to €18.

Bale prices remain at a stable level. An overview of the bale prices can be found in the DCA listing Bale price Onions.
