You have weeks that bring out the darkest part of you. Judging from the provisional export figure for week 6, that could easily be one of those weeks. The first publication for week 6 amounts to 13.840 tons, only 1.300 tons more than in the start-up week of 2021. The average export figure for calendar year 2021 therefore amounts to 17.222 tons per week so far, which is still an excellent result.

Not enough to keep every sorter working
These types of export weeks also explain the different moods or, if you prefer, experiences among onion sorters. The volume is only 30 percent of that of the peak week of onion exports. Not enough to keep every sorter working. Anyone who is not awarded export orders will also be little active in the purchasing channel. The seasonal average in terms of exports per week is 27.803 tonnes, resulting in a total export figure of 917.501 tonnes.

Top customers all on other continents
In week 6, Brazil, Mauritania, Malaysia, Great Britain, Guinea and Ivory Coast recorded volumes of more than 900 tons of onions. With 1.760 tons, the Brazilians made the biggest move. They thus raised the total seasonal decrease to 8.512 tons. It is striking that the next three largest customers are all on other continents. Mauritania imported 3 tons of onions, Malaysia 1.688 tons and Great Britain 1.267 tons. Based on subsequent information, the export figures for weeks 1.095 to 1 have been increased by 5 tons.
